Types of applications

We accept the following types of applications for visas:

Processing Times

The table below shows the amount of temporary visa applications processed within the below timeframes between 1/07/2008 to 01/07/2009.

Processing times for visitor visas remain good with 94% of applications lodged in Moscow processed within 15 days and 98% of applications within 30 days.

Overall, we made a total of 4035 temporary visa decisions for this period. 87% of these decisions were approvals. The majority of temporary visas can be processed in less than 10 working days. Applications requiring additional information, verification, interview or those involving the determination of a relationship can take longer. Applications received during peak periods, e.g. Christmas, may also take longer.

Please note however you still need to allow 7 working days for processing applications for urgent travel.

Family residence visas are usually decided in 9-12 months.

Countries Serviced

Visa applications from the following countries are accepted:

  • Armenia
  • Azerbaijan
  • Belarus
  • Kazakhstan
  • Kyrgyzstan
  • Moldova
  • Russia
  • Tajikistan
  • Turkmenistan
  • Ukraine
  • Uzbekistan
All types of visas (except skilled migrant category)
  • Estonia
  • Latvia
  • Lithuania
Family Residence visas only.
For other types of visas the citizens of these countries should apply to Immigration New Zealand in the Hague

The citizens of these countries are exempt from having to obtain a temporary visa for visits up to 3 months. Visa waiver does not apply to people travelling on alien's (non-citizen's) passports issued by these countries.

Citizens of Georgia should apply for temporary visas with Immigration New Zealand in Ankara, Turkey.

Citizens of Georgia should apply for residence visas with Immigration New Zealand in London, UK.

Nationals of third countries are serviced here only if they have permanent registration in the above named countries.

Who needs a visa to visit New Zealand?

All applicants from the above countries will need a visa to go to New Zealand.
This includes people who wish to transit New Zealand.

To obtain a visa you will need to fill in an application form and pay the scheduled fee
for the appropriate type of visa (see fees).

People from Russia do not need to pay the fee for a visitor's visa only.

How can you make your application as painless as possible?

Always check Immigration New Zealand’s website www.immigration.govt.nz before you make your application to find out what visa application will suit your need. You should also check the Moscow Branch website www.nzis.msk.ru where will find helpful local information check lists and additional information forms that may be required for your application. All the information on www.nzis.msk.ru is available in Russian and English language.
